Violent Critical Incident Response
On May 22 2017, a suicide bomber targeted an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England resulting in 23 deaths and 1,017 injuries. A little over four months later on October 1, 2017 a lone attacker killed 59 concert attendees in Las Vegas. Another 500 people were injured or wounded in the attack.

These two horrific incidents sent shockwaves through the live events industry. We all knew we had to start to focus on a different safety threat than most of us had been preparing for. Shortly thereafter, I became certified as an ALICE instructor for the organization I was working with.

Inspired by my years as an ALICE trainer, I teach a course that covers the principles of proactive and empowered responses to a Violent Critical Incident. I pair these well thought out responses with a medical skills class focusing on controlling massive hemorrhage (major bleeding). By combining these complimentary and vital skillsets, I hope to impart important lessons for all those who may ever find themselves in such a tragic situation.
