Safety Audits and Inspections
The words "audit" and "inspection" can trigger anxiety in even the most seasoned professional. Far from being a "gotcha" moment to catch workers, volunteers, and others making mistakes, audits and inspections serve vital roles in a larger safety program. If utilized correctly, these tools can help identify trends of unsafe behavior or conditions before incidents occur. A well run audit and inspection program, used to augment a robust safety management system, will help to predict potential accidents, injuries, or other adverse events and give you time to enact corrective actions and prevent disastrous outcomes.
After new safety programs are enacted, it is important to continue to audit programs and inspect work areas, event sites, equipment, and tools on a regular basis. Using structured and cohesive audit and inspection tools, you can start to gauge the efficacy of your safety programs in real life.
I conduct initial site visits, inspections, and audits for my clients to help develop new safety programs or improve existing one. I continue these inspections and audits for as long as requested to aid in the long term development of their safety programs.
